Andrzej Paruzel

Andrzej Paruzel graduated from Warsaw University and Leon Schiller Film School in Łódź. In the 70's and 80's he created videos, films and experimental photographs. In later decades he created a series of works in public space within Biuro Przewodników po Sztuce i Kulturze (Art and Culture Guides Office).

These are black and white posters from the series "Biuro Podróży »Soczewka«" (Travel Agency 'Focus') which show Paris tramps. The pictures were taken 30 years ago. They show scruffy, unshaven men eating, sleeping, talking and asking the passers-by for money. Critical overtones are strenghtened by placing the posters on billboards. A fictional travel agency offers the possibility to see a Paris street with all its diversity. Monochromatic posters distinguish themselves among colourful advertisement billboards. In Lublin Paruzel will show another part of this series - six billboards placed in the city centre.
